Smooth Streaming (Microsoft IIS Web server extension that is used to stream multimedia content) file that is stored on the IIS Web server and includes information about codecs, resolutions and fragments (video chunks in ISMV files) for stored multimedia files. ISMC file uses an XML formatting. These files are used by Silverlight client programs that are executed within the user's Web browser. ISMC files are saved along with ISM server file and together they make up all information required by the server and the client to start a multimedia stream.
