Windows CardSpace (software that is used for managing digital identities) file with such personal or business data as names, addresses and phone numbers as well as a digital signature which specifies the individual or business. Windows CardSpace cards allow users to have a "virtual ID" for safely signing onto websites. The same card may be used to access several websites. Personal data is not sent when sending a card to a website, only the digital signature is sent for identifying the user. Only websites and other online services which are compatible with Windows CardSpace can use CRD files. Old CRD files that were used by previous versions of Windows, prior to Windows 95, were saved using a different format, but still may be opened using the AZZ Cardlife application.
