CEL file extension

Adobe Audition (audio production software) sound file with an audio loop which was originally in the MP3 format, but was modified by the program so it is suitable for looping. Adobe Audition provides severa; royalty free loops with the program installation.

MicroStation (CAD software which is used for generating two-dimensional and three-dimensional design drafts) cell library file with the geometry, symbols and other draft data for an object. It is used for saving the building blocks to create higher-order designs. MicroStation can be used to export CEL files to DWG and DXF formats.

Affymetrix DNA microarray graphics analysing program data file with the information that was extracted from "probes" on an Affymetrics GeneChip. It may contain thousands of information points and can be processed by program algorithms and visualized on a two-dimensional grid as part of an overall genome experiment. GeneChip is a biological chip which stores a microarray that is valid for one experiment. CEL format has many versions with different formatting (for example version 3 uses an ASCII text formatting and version 4 uses a binary formatting). CEL files need a related CDF file that is the dictionary for the raw probe-level information located in the CEL file. Windows edition of MATLAB include an affyread option used for reading CEL files.

Battery 3 (software which generates drum rhythms and sounds) file with sound settings for a particular drum sound within a Battery 3 drum sound cell. It is used for editing drum samples with extra effects, like reverb, tone or compression.

Celestia (free space browsing software) script file which was created with a specific Celestia syntax and stores commands used to move the viewing perspective throughout the universe. It is used to generate three-dimensional universe tours. These files can also store more advanced function, like instructions for loading custom three-dimensional models into the space tour. CEL files may also store captions for providing interesting facts to the observer. New versions of Celestia use CELX format (use more powerful Lua scripting language) instead of CEL, but CEL files are still supported by the software.

Animation file which uses FLIC formatting. The file contains a series of frames without parts from previous frames which remain static. FLC or FLI extensions are usually used for this file.
