This is a Windows program deployment file which is usually used in business environments for publishing non-MSI applications to users. It stores plain text and defines the name of the application, the application file to run, the version number, the publisher and other optional data. The file enables EXE applications to be published to users if no MSI is available. This file is called a "Zero Administration Package" (ZAP) because it enables applications to be deployed to users without using administrative privilegies on local computers. GPO (Group Policy Object - an access control object which permits access to specific files and applications) is used for deploying ZAP programs in Windows. ZAP files may be generated using any text editor and have some limitations, like they cannot assume elevated privileges for installing a program.
