XLSX file extension

Microsoft Excel (software which is used for generating spreadsheets) spreadsheet file with worksheets which store cells arranged in a grid of rows and columns. It can also store charts, mathematical functions, styles and formatting and is usually used for saving financial information and for generating simple and complex mathematical models. Every cell from the spreadsheet can be formatted individually and can reference other cells for computing a resulting value. Open XML standard is used for generating XLSX files. They are saved as a compressed Zip package that stores a group of individual files. The package contain XML files which describes the spreadsheet and an XML file for every worksheet within the spreadsheet. MS Excel 2007, newer versions or previous versions with installed Open XML component can be used for opening XLSX files.
