Band-in-a-Box (BiaB - an application that automatically generates full band accompaniments) musical style file with a playing style like Jazz, Rock, Hip-Hop or Country. This file is used to create stylized audio clips for a certain genre of music. BiaB styles may be MIDI or they can use real instruments and drums, called RealStyles, that use real recordings of musicians for the audio clips. STY files serve as plug-ins for the program. There are several preinstalled styles with the program installation. Various other styles may be purchased and downloaded from the PG Music Band-in-a-Box website.

Yamaha or Korg synthesizer music style file with a musical rhythm that contains several instruments. This file can be store on a disk and loaded on compatible keyboards. STY files are not cross-platform because Yamaha and Korg use different formats to store these files. Style Fixer program (for Yamaha) and GNIStyle program (for Korg) can be used for editing styles.

NewsMaker (software that enables students to produce news stories) file that uses an XML formatting and stores the written text for the story. This file is referenced within a NewsMaker project (NMP file). Projects may include multiple stories, each saved in a separate STY file. Aegisub (multiplatform subtitle editing program) file that uses a plain text formatting and contains the font settings for one or multiple styles in a subtitle category. This file stores the font type, color, effects and margins and is used to save and load fonts generated in the application. Styles Manager window (can be accessed by choosing "Subtitles" → "Styles Manager..." from the program menu) is used to manage Aegisub styles. STY files cannot be accessed manually by the user and are saved automatically. These files are located in the "[user]/AppData/Roaming/Aegisub/catalog/" folder in Windows and in the "[user]/Library/Application Support/Aegisub/catalog/" folder in Mac OS.
