SBN file extension

ESRI ArcGIS spatial mapping application file with a binary representation of the shape information saved in a SHP file. The file is stored along with a SBX index file. Both files together make the shape index. SBN file includes information that speeds up spatial queries on shapefiles. Shape information in this file is saved in several small rectangles. Every rectangle has its own settings that may be matched with spatial query criteria. The binary format and the divided shape information provide faster queries. SBN files are not necessary for querying and parsing shape because all shape data is saved in a separate SHP file. Only ESRI application uses SBN files.

GT-31 or BGT-31 (outdoor waterproof GPS navigation devices) saved data file with position and speed data that was recorded while navigating with the device. The file is used to log travel paths and review them later. SBN files are located on the SD card in the GT-31. These files are saved using a binary formatting. SBN means "SiRF binary logging (non-NMEA)". SiRF is a type of GPS device chip.

Cisco IP (Internet Protocol) phones firmware or "image" file with data that is used to control the functions of the phone. The file is used in the IP phone firmware upgrade process. The file is commonly provided with a few other files in a firmware archive. The data from SBN files commonly complies with the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) standard. SBN files are often used when upgrading an IP phone from the SCCP (Skinny Call Control Protocol) to the SIP protocol. You can manage the firmware on Cisco IP phones with the Unified Communications Manager application that was previously named "CallManager". SBN image files are signed by Cisco so that the issuing source may be validated and the file cannot be easily tampered with before installing to the phone. Unsigned images use BIN file extension.
