Audition and Cool Edit Pro file with the visual representation of an audio waveform for a corresponding audio file that is automatically created when an audio file is opened or imported. This file is located in the same folder as the original audio file. Peak files are created for all audio files opened with Audition 2.0 by default. Automatic peak file generation can be turned off by selecting "Edit" → "Preferences" → "Display", and then deselecting "Save Peak Cache Files". Cool Edit Pro was rebranded as Adobe Audition in May 2003, when Adobe acquired Syntrillium.
