PIX file extension

Geomatica (geomatics software that is used to process and analyze geographic images) PCIDSK file (PCI Geomatics Database File) with spatial data split across several image channels that is usually used to save small to very large geospatial data sets like satellite images. PCI Geomatics developed the PCIDSK file format in 1988 as a replacement for the UNIDSK format that was dependent on 16-bit architectures and was unable to scale to 32-bit and 64-bit systems. The PCIDSK format is more flexible for saving new data requirements. Geomatica may be used for remote sensing, geospatial analysis, digital photogrammetry, map production, mosaicking and automated product system functions. There are Core and Prime versions of Geomatica.

Generated using the proprietary Alias PIX format bitmap image file with a header followed by pixels that are run-length encoded in packets and was originally used by Alias 3D program (for example PowerAnimater), but is not used anymore.

BRL-CAD (cross-platform open source solid modeling system) raw image format file with image data stored in a 24-bit uncompressed format that uses RGB color mode and does not include dimension data. PIX files may be converted to default PNG files with BRL-CAD pix-png command.
