Mutation Annotation Format (MAF - a file format that is used for recording mutations in cells) text file with cell and genome data stored in tab-delimited text. This file is used in cancer studies to record somatic mutations and single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs). The National Cancer Institute and the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) maintain the MAF format under a project called The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). This format is mainly used by custom research analysis programs, but MAF files may be opened using any text editor due to their text formatting. MAF format edition 2.2 is compatible with 32 various tab-delimited columns.
