This file is used to animate speech with in-game non-player characters (NPCs). The Elder Scrolls (TES) Construction Set (created for THe Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion) and the Fallout 3 G.E.C.K. (The Garden of Eden Creation Kit) utilities may be used to create LIP files. These applications enable players to create modifications that alter game content. LIP files are usually included with BSA game archives.

Real Virtuality (Bohemia Interactive gaming engine that was used to develop Operation Flshpoint, Armed Assault (ArmA) series and Virtual Battlespace series (VBS1 and VBS2) video games) file with lip sync information used fro NPCs (non-player characters). LIP files are synchronized with an OGG audio file that was converted from a mono 16-bit WAV file with Bohemia Interactive WavToLip (or Wav2Lip) application. LIP files should have the same filename prefix as the OGG file.
