Lingoes (dictionary and text translation software) source file that is used to define dictionary information. This file uses a plain text format to store dictionary title information, terms and their meanings. LDF files are compiled into LD2 files that may be imported into the program. Users are not able to create their own dictionaries, but Lingoes Project plans to release Lingoes Dictionary Creator application that will enable users to generate custom LD2 dictionaries.

SQL Server (relational database management system (RDBMS) that was created by Microsoft) log file with a log of recent actions executed by the database. This file is used for tracking events so that the database can be restored after hardware collapses or other unexpected failures. LDF files are transaction logs with a history of activity for fully and partially committed transactions to the database (MDF file). This transaction log can be used for recovering the database to the previous stable state after an unexpected error. LDF files may be very large in size due to open transactions that have not been fully committed yet.
