Designed using the Joint Bi-level Image Group 2 (JBIG2) format bitonal image file with 1-bit black and white pixels in lossy or lossless format. This file supports greater compression ratios than the competing CCITT Fax Group 4 compression method. JB2 files are segmented into three regions: text, halftone images and generic regions. This enables the JBIG2 method to optimize compression for the various areas of the picture. JBIG2 files are usually used to save binary images for sending via fax because of their high compression ratios.
