How to open IMG file
IMG files are disk image files that are now considered to be outdated. These files store digital information identical to what's stored on the hard drive. IMG files are stored in the PC's main drive; the device sees them either as a hard drive or as an external digital media.
These files were developed by Apple and used by macOS 9 and earlier software versions. IMG files are hardly used now, having been replaced by the modernized DMG format.

Game files, like Grand Theft Auto Data File, can be run using IMG Tool or ImgEd.
