Specified bu the International Organization for Standards (ISO) in 1977 vector image file format which stores two-dimensional or tree-dimensional image information that is used for charts and other plots. It was developed as a muti-platform image format. U.S. Geological Survey and several other applications used GKS format in the 1980s and 1990s, but this format is no longer used.
