Old editions of FaceFX (software that is used to construct facial animations from audio files) three-dimensional model file with three-dimensional facial bone positions, face graph nodes and links and animation keys. This file is often used in video games to animate facial expressions on virtual characters. FXA files were created to save the data necessary for the animation only and they do not include any FaceFX-specific project information. This allows the files to be lighweight and consume fewer resources when being used during gameplay. Such video games as StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, Mass Effect 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 use FaceFX animations. FaceFX 2009 and newer uses FACEFX files instead of FXA files.
