Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) format (created by the NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) to exchange and view medical images like CT scans, MRIs and ultrasound pictures) image file. DICOM files can also contain identification information for patients so that the image can be linked to a specific individual. DICOM images are usually saved with DCM file extension.
