DB file extension

This is a common database file with information saved using a structured format, usually with an arrangement of tables, table fields, field information types and field values. It may be generated by different database applications and exported to various formats like CSV files. Several database applications can import these files.

Mobile devices (for example Android, iOS and Windows Phone 7 mobile phones) database file with contacts and SMS data but can also contain any type of device or program information. It is usually saved using an SQLite database format but can be also locked or encrypted so the user cannot see the information directly. DB files should not be opened or edited manually because they are support files which store data for the device or for a program. For example "sms.db" file (stored in the /private/var/mobile/Library/SMS/ folder on the device) is an iOS support file which contains the user's text messages.

QQ (Chinese online chatting application) data file with the contact list or log of online chat sessions for a user account. It is used to save program information locally and load it through the application interface. These files are usually located in the "Program Files/Tencent/QQ/[account number]/" folder.

Skype (software used to make calls, send messages, and create video chats) chat history file with all the instant messages and call details information.

X-Ray Engine video games (for example S.T.A.L.K.E.R. video game series) database file with objects and other data used by the game. These files are similar to GCF files that are used by Valve-based video games. DB0, DB1, DB2, DBA, DBB, DBC, etc. extensions may be also used by the engine.

This file stores a cache of thumbnail pictures which represent larger pictures in a Windows folder. It contains small versions of pictures saved in a folder for faster browsing. Windows Thumbnail Cache files are usually named "Thumbs.db".
