CDX file extension

ChemDraw (molecule editing software suite for Macintosh and Windows systems) chemical information file with molecular information stored using a tagged binary format. This file is used to save accurate chemical drawings. CDX files include such data as atoms, bonds, fragments, arrows and text. ChemDraw uses CDX format as the default format. CDXML format is used to export and exchange CDX information using an XML format.

This file stores an index of files or other information saved in a database. It is similar to a compact index (IDX) file, but the leaf nodes at the lowest level of a compound index point to one of the tags in the index. The compound index is the default database index format that is used by FoxPro.

Alpha Five (Web program developers IDE) index file with table index information which is used by the program for searching table records. This file is generated when index fields in the table are specified and intended to order lists in data file. The file contains only index names up to 10 characters long and is similar to DDX, ALX, and ASX index files. When backing up the data, the CDX file should be also saved with DBF and FPT data files.

ConceptDraw PRO (technical drawing software) XML diagram file with XML version of a binary CDD file that is used to transfer drawing data in an XML exchange format which is easier to read than the binary version.

CorelDRAW (vector-graphics editing software provided with the CorelDRAW Graphics Suite program) file with a compresed CDR drawing file. Compressed file is used for reducing the storage space needed for a drawing. CDX files are useful to send smaller files over email or to package drawings on external media.
