BDF file extension

Forensic information analysis applications binary data format that is used to identify raw information recovered from blocks of unallocated space on a hard drive. E-mail Detective ( a forensic application which is able to extract text and graphics from AOL email files) recognizes BDF files.

MSC Nastran (software that is used to analyze aircraft, buildings, spacecraft, and other structures) input file with bulk information specifications that will be input into the program for analyzing the stress and strain levels of model structures. The file stores such information as the name of the bulk information, the number of grids, and the node locations of the components which comprise the model. The data in the file uses the FORTRAN programming language. BDF files are similar to NAS and DAT files that are also used by MSC Nastran.

ESO-MIDAS (European Southern Observatory-Munich Image Data Analysis System) program disk image format that is used mostly to save such astronomy information as stellar and surface photometry. These files may be opened and analyzed on Unix and Open VMS systems with ESO-MIDAS program.

Mac OS and Windows platforms ASCII-based font format which saves Adobe screen fonts as human-readable information. This file must be stored in the system Fonts directory in order to be recognized by programs. BDF files are referenced by applications which access system fonts.

This format is used for patches that update video game ROMs and may be used for creating patches for binary files. Patches for game ROMs are used to change gameplay aspects, such as game language, level order, or game dialogues. BSDIFF extension is also used for these patch files.
