Animated Portable Network Graphic (APNG) format unofficial extension file with several frames (PNG pictures) used to make an animation sequence. It is similar to an animated GIF file but has additional support of 24-bit images and 8-bit transparency. The initial frame in an APNG file is a standard PNG picture, so animated PNGs are backwards compatible with several programs that support PNG files. APNG files usually are saved with PNG extension.
