ACT file extension

Genesis 3D format three-dimensional character or "actor" file that can store object motions, skins and materials. These files may be generated directly within Genesis3D (open-source real-time 3D rendering engine that is mostly used to produce 3D video games) software or by converting other 3D formats to the ACT format with Genesis3D Actor Studio application. The Actor Studio, Actor Viewer and other files are included into the Genesis 3D engine pack.

Alma CAD/CAM software applications (for example, act/cut 3D, act/weld, and act/tubes) CAD file with CAD/CAM information which defines instructions for three-dimensional cutting machines or welding robots. Cutting and welding can be made using laser, plasma, waterjet, and flame technologies.

DS Game Maker (software that is used for generating Nintendo DS games) file with a game action created using C programming language. It is used to display graphics, play sounds, create transitions, control game logic and for other actions. Provided templates can be used for generating custom actions in the DS Game Maker Action Editor interface. These files are located in the "Actions" folder of the program installation directory. ACT files are stored along with a related ACTX file that includes a description for the action.

Adobe Photoshop (software that is used to edit raster images) color lookup table (CLUT) file with a list of pre-defined colors. This file is used to apply a CLUT to a picture in the "Save for Web" dialog within Photoshop application. ACT files are used to optimize pictures for Web publishing. Users are able to examine the quality of the picture in compare with the resulting file size before saving it by adding or reducing the number of colors in the CLUT. There are some predefined ACT files which are preinstalled with the software and located in the "/Presets/en_US/Save for Web Settings/Color Tables/" folder. CLUTs are used by such image formats as GIF in the Save for Web dialog, but JPG and PNG files do not use them.

This file is used to show the hierarchical relations within the code of a FoxPro program. It can be generated using the Documenting Wizard that is available from "Tools" → "Wizards" → "Documenting".
