Autodesk 3D Studio three-dimensional graphics format file with mesh information, material attributes, bitmap references, smoothing group information, viewport settings, camera locations and lighting data. This file can also store object animation information. 3DS files are made up of blocks of information which are called "chunks" and store an ID and length description. Chunks contain shapes, lighting and viewing data which together used for representing the entire three-dimensional scene. MAX format is now used instead of 3DS format, and 3D Studio is now called 3ds Max.
